Bil Wright is an award-winning novelist and playwright. His novels include Putting Makeup on the Fat Boy (Lambda Literary Award and American Library Association Stonewall Book Award), the highly acclaimed When the Black Girl Sings (Junior Library Guild selection), and the critically acclaimed Sunday You Learn How to Box (New York Public Library Choice for Young Readers and a Coretta King Celebrating the Dream Award. His plays include Bloodsummer Rituals, based on the life of poet Audre Lorde (Jerome Fellowship), and Leave Me a Message (San Diego Human Rights Festival premiere). He is the librettist for This One Girl’s Story (2011 GLAAD nominee), which also won Best Ensemble of the New York Musical theatre Festival; he is also winner of a LAMI (La Mama Playwriting Award). 

His directing credits include Yasmine Rana’s The War Zone Is My Bed (San Diego Human Rights Festival, West Coast Premiere), 6th and Penn, Men, Theatre Am Turm, Frankfurt, 48 Hours in Harlem (Winner of 2014 Obie), Going Back to Bushwick, Emerging Artists Theatre One-Man Talking Festival, Leave Me A Message, and more. Mr. Wright has taught many workshops on writing on both coasts and is an Associate Professor of English at City University of New York.
